Toast, the Beloved Instagram Dog, Has Passed Away

The canine world lost a dear friend on December 16 when Instagram dog and anti-puppy mill advocate Toast passed away.

The heartbreaking announcement was made via Toast’s page, which had over 380K adoring followers.

“Heaven has a new star tonight,” Toast’s owner Katie Sturino wrote, adding that the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who was a puppy mill rescue, “had an exceptional life.”

In addition to Toast’s impressive resume (which included a book and appearances in modeling campaigns), Sturino wrote that, “above all, she was a best friend, a world champion little spoon.”

She joked that Toast snored like a truck driver and was “often a little devil,” but her messages of joy and her work as an animal rights advocate will be carried on. In addition to keeping her social media pages going, Toast’s family is running a YouCaring page that will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to three charities that promote adoption and raise awareness about puppy mills.

Sturino is encouraging fans to share their photos and memories of Toast with the hashtag #ToastMeetsHeaven.

“Toast loved meeting fans at meet ups and on the streets,” she wrote. “She knew she was loved and adored by people around the globe and we are so grateful to have known her. Our hearts will eventually heal knowing that she will live on forever in people’s hearts.”

Toast was also the doggie sibling to fellow puppy mill survivors Muppet and Underpants, who have their own social media pages and will carry on her legacy of being totally adorable and lovable.

We’ll miss you, Toast. Thanks for all those tongue-wagging smiles.
