Detachable hood.
Love the detachable hood! The snaps at the chest are a great plus, instead of Velcro, and the Velcro along the underside is heavy duty. This jacket is well made!
-
Warm coat!
Great coat for my little guy- very warm and thick. He looks adorable in it and I love how cozy it keeps him
-
Keeps him warm!
This coat is wonderful for those super cold days. The hood was awesome, but I did have to tack it in two places to make it shorter so my dog could see (the hood came down to his nose, lol). He looks adorable with the fur trimmed hood, and he loves wearing it on cold days. On super cold days, i just put it on over his sweater and the harness over the coat.
Best Fleece Dog Jacket
-
She looks so cute
Light enough to wear on those more chilly days (25 F and under) without overheating in the car. Haven't had her wear it when it's warmer than that, but my review is on a German Shepard Mix - she's usually okay until it drops below 15 F.
-
Happy Christmas!
It’s for my 14 yr old Jack Russell Terrier. He’ll be a happy boy on Christmas morning. Which is his favorite holiday!
-
Love this coat!
This coat is so cute and has been keeping my dog cozy during New England winter. It fits true to size and is good quality. He’s been getting a lot of compliments at dog daycare!
Best Dog Coat for Large Dogs
-
Stylish & Warm
It’s been cold in the Pacific Northwest and this coat has done its job. Even receives compliments from the millennials in their own Carhartt gear!
-
Durable easy to put on
Love this coat it’s easy to put on and take off with the Velcro straps. I was a little worried about Sadie staying warm given that it’s thin but her body felt warm when she came in from playing outside. I do wish it was a little longer to cover her neck and back end but other than that I give it 5 stars.
-
Fits my baby hippo!
Been searching like crazy for a jacket that will fit my English Bulldog. This is the only one that worked. High quality jacket that keeps him warm but not too warm, because I don't want him to overheat. Wish it had an opening for his leash to pull through the top. Otherwise, I couldn't be happier with it! He looks super cute in it, too.
Best Dog Coat for Small Dogs
-
very warm
This winter coat is absolutely wonderful. My dog gets very cold and this coat is great for the cold weather. Keeps him warm and cozy, absolutely thrilled with this purchase. Thank you CHewy
-
Insulated Jacket
The exterior of the jacket is polyester and snow and rain will not penetrate as quickly as other fabrics. It is a great fit and comfortable for my short-haired dog.
-
So warm!!
The suit is amazing. I had to size up as the small was too tight on my 12lb Shorkie because she is on the longer side. Medium size was perfect for her. Well made, looks fancy :)
Best Dog Snow Coat
-
Cozy in the snow
My boy loooooves this snowsuit. It's warm and cozy, while not being too bulky. He has full range of motion while wearing it. Highly recommend for dogs sensitive to cold, or elderly best friends who need some extra warmth.
-
Absolutely impeccable
Have a 5 year old petite boxer/bulldog mix that is literally belly pink. Rest of her coat translucent white with skin and fur freckles. Needless to say, winter is harsh in New England. This coat is amazing..quality stellar. So worth every cent.
-
Hurtta Coats are the best!!!
So far, everything I have bought from Hurtta has been top quality. I love it so much and my fur baby does too. It's easy to get on and keeps her warm and dry. This products are amazing so making this my go to from now on.
Best Dog Peacoat

Beautiful and Comfy
One of my dogs recently lost his jacket to the hands of a friend, so he needed a new one. And since acquiring a new Chin (both are Japanese Chins) and almost identical as his older brother. Both black & white and beautiful, it was only fitting that they wear matching jackets. These jackets were reasonable in price, comfy and nice looking. I love them!
-
EXCELLENT Quality!
I volunteer at an animal shelter and bought this for one of the short-haired, no-insulation-on-their-body dogs for walk time during our cold winter mornings in the Desert Southwest. He loves it! It is so cozy and fits perfectly. I wish it would fit me!
-
Nice and warm, plus it’s easy on, easy off
This is a great coat with good working Velcro at the neck and under the belly. The only issue is the sizing. The XXL was the right fit for length, but the Velcro under the belly is very long, more for a deep chested dog. But this coat fits well enough and even better if there’s a harness and/or a second layer underneath.
Best Reversible Dog Coat
-
Very practical
Fits my pittie perfectly! Has ample velcro to adjust fit. Covers him all the way to his tail keeping him warm and dry when out doing his business. Washes well and is well made. Highly recommend
-
Great flexible fit for a senior APB mix
Very happy with this jacket, and my girl prefers to wear it continuously, so it's obviously comfortable. The neck and belly straps are nice and long to accommodate a senior mix whose dimensions don't fit any specific breed guidelines. The hook and loop fasteners hold well and make for an easy on-and-off when making a quick potty trip.
-
Great little jacket
Perfect for when it's cold, but not super cold. Time will tell how the velcro will hold up. I leave the neck fastened, slip it over her head, and fasten the belly band which gets the most use. For reference, my dog is about 24lbs, beagle sized. Purchased a Large, but maybe could have used an x-Large for wiggle room and a bit more length.
Best Faux Fur Coat for Dogs
-
Adorable and perfect fit
I finally found a coat to fit as expected. Good quality made and so cute on in this cold weather. She seems to actually like it.
-
Beautiful coat!
It barely fits my dog in XXL but there wasn't a bigger size, but it fits well enough. This is a really nice coat in blk/white plaid with black velvet like trim. I love it!Very classic design!
-
How handsome he looks in this well-made jacket!
When it's cold outside, I hear others say "Ah, he is so cute in that little plaid jacket"! My dog gets a warm coat & I get kudos from on-lookers. I hear lots of positive remarks when he wears this. With Velcro straps, it is one of the easier jackets to put on a dog. Unfortunately, my preference was for the cute red version & it was out of stock 2 months ago, so I couldn't order it. That was disappointing. While it's fine for Virginia weather, I don't think it would be is suitable for very cold weather that many other states get.
Best Corduroy Dog Coat
-
Recommend!
Maya is a Chihuahua and Miniature Pincher mix, she weighs in at 12 pounds and normally wears a small. But reading reviews I noticed it ran a bit small, and yes that is correct. I bought her a medium and it fits perfectly, a small would have been wayy too tiny. It’s a touch longer in the back but that’s not a problem. If your pup doesn’t mind Velcro, I definitely recommend. Just make sure you size up!
-
ADORABLE
This fits my Peke well. She actually tolerates the hood! Lol I love it! The M covers her nicely and keeps her warm in our cold winters!
-
Nice and Warm
It’s 9mph winds and a high of 50 today and my fur baby is nice and warm eyeing squirrels and birds from our yard!
Best Snood-Style Dog Coat
-
BEST PURCHASE
Literally one of the best clothing items you could get for your puppy. It covers their neck and can go over their ears and is very warm! This is a good to sweater for sure!
-
The snood
I really wasn’t sure if my 60 lbs of bad decisions dog would let me put the coat on, let alone wear it for more than 5 minutes. But he loves it. The snood comes up to his ears and keeps him warm.
-
Such a Winner!
Someone did their thinking when creating this dog sweater that is different than the rest of those that don't really work so well. My dog is a French Bullie. My dog's needs are 1) something that fits in the right places without binding her legs (which hurts her) 2) something that keeps her warm where the heat escapes, as in the soft adjustable shawl-like collar. THAT right there is such a winner! It's washable and we both love this sweater!
Best Dog Raincoat
-
Great for larger doggos
This is so easy to put on our boy as the velcro adjusts under his belly and neck area. Great design and he loves it
-
Great Rain Protection
This coat works great to protect my lab from a downpour. It is very waterproof and the price was great. It is not an insulated jacket. It really is just rain protection. For the price it really is good deal.
-
I like style and color
However I bought four of them two had to be replaced because stomach strap broke. Chewy replaced one. I had one for later and it was longer than six months so couldn't get replaced but they didn't charge shipping fee.
Best Waterproof Dog Coat
-
Great jacket!
Very warm, has worked very well for my dog during this recent -30 F weather in Minnesota. It is easy to put on and seems very comfortable
-
Warm and Cute
Kept my sweet boy warm and handsome for our walks in this freezing northeast weather. I also love that that the coat doesn't block anything so that he can relieve himself appropriately. Highly recommend.
-
Lovely, Easy, and Warm!
We have fairly rapidly growing puppies, and though the jackets are a little oversized, they do not encumber the pups in anyway, and are easy to securein place. We have had some subzero weather and my puppies have single coats and I’ve certainly been willing to stay out a little longer with them on. I think they look rather stylish, too. Not that my mutts give a hoot.
Best Puffer Coat for Dogs
-
Love them!
I have 3 of these for my 2 dogs (in red color). They really like them in the cold weather! They sleep in them too as we like our house cooler at nite than most people. Well made as well!
-
Easy to put on
Easy to put on my 8 lb. Chi. She is warm on cold walks, and great waterproof for when it's lightly raining and misting. Easy to wash too. Stylish of course !
-
Perfect!
This coat gets so MANY compliments! It fits beautifully, is simple to put on & has worn so well. It still looks like new!
Dog Coat FAQs
What are the benefits of putting a coat on a dog?
Dog coats aren’t just a fashion statement for Fido. They help keep your pet warm, cozy and safe during cold days in the fall and winter. The extra layer helps maintain their body temperature and can also provide protection from the wind, snow and rain.
Do dogs need to wear coats?
Not every dog needs to wear winter coats, especially if they already have a nice layer of fur to protect them. However, some small dog breeds, short-haired dogs, older dogs, and dogs with low body fat may benefit from an extra layer, notes Dr. Carol Osborne, DVM, a veterinarian at Chagrin Falls Veterinary Center & Pet Clinic in Ohio.
“I tell my patients, ‘If it’s too cold for you to go outside without a jacket, it’s probably too cold for your dog to go without a jacket, too,’” Dr. Osbourne says.
Dog coats can also protect from sleet, snow, and rain, as well as windy days. If your pup has sensitive skin or tends to get cold, a jacket or coat comes in very handy.
How do I pick the right coat for my dog?
The most important factors to keep in mind when shopping for dog coats is fit and comfort. You want to make sure to measure your pup and that the garment has a snug fit but isn’t too tight. Follow these instructions on how to properly measure your dog for clothing. Then refer to the coat manufacturer’s sizing chart.
From there, you can consider other details, such as reflective piping (great for nighttime walking), water-resistant materials for wet weather, or leash holes and/or d-rings for easy leash attachment. Also consider your particular climate since you don’t want a coat that’ll make your dog too warm or not warm enough.
