This Instant Pot Dog-Friendly Stew Is All Kinds of Cozy

It’s cold outside and you’re probably craving comfort food like a warm, savory stew. Your dogs are also attuned to the change of seasons, and we think they might enjoy digging into a delicious homemade stew ladled into a bowl, too.

That’s why we created an Instant Pot recipe especially for them: This dog-friendly stew—from recipe developer, cookbook author and food blogger Alison Lewis—is filled with protein-rich beef and nutritious veggies for a drool-worthy canine dish.

This DIY dog treat couldn’t be easier to whip up! All you need is extra-lean beef, golden potatoes, carrots, celery, peas and some flour. After browning the beef, combine the rest of the ingredients in an Instant Pot (or other multi-cooker) and then set it and forget it. In about 30 minutes, you’ll have an dog-friendly stew that’s perfect for the chilly winter months. You can even cozy up and enjoy a bowl yourself with a little extra seasoning. Instant Pot Dog-Friendly Stew DIY Dog Treat

Ingredients

1 and 1/4 pounds extra-lean beef stew meat

3/4 pound baby golden potatoes

2 large carrots

2 large celery stalks

4 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 cup frozen peas

4 and 1/2 cups no-salt beef broth, divided (without garlic and onions which are toxic to dogs)

6-quart Instant Pot

Measuring cup

Measuring spoon

Knives

Cutting board

Large mixing spoon

Small whisk

Small serving bowl

Instructions

1 Cut beef into 3/4-inch cubes and sauté using Instant Pot’s sauté setting on high until evenly browned.

Hit cancel to reset Instant Pot once complete.

2 Dice potatoes, celery and carrots into 1/2-inch pieces.

3 Add veggies and 4 cups beef broth to the Instant Pot, mixing with the sautéed beef until well combined. Close and lock lid, adjust pressure to high and set time for 30 minutes.

When finished cooking, quick-release pressure.

4 Select high sauté setting and bring to a boil. Whisk together flour and remaining broth and add to stew. Stir frequently until slightly thickened (about 3-4 minutes).

5 Stir in peas until heated through, about 1 minute more.

6Turn off Instant Pot and ladle stew into a bowl. Cool before serving.
