A dog harness is a dog walking staple. In fact, many pet parents opt for dog harnesses instead of dog collars. Why? Because they help distribute pressure away from their fur baby’s neck that’s caused by the leash, especially in dogs who pull. The best dog harnesses will have secure leash attachment points, be made with durable, easy to clean materials and have several adjustment points for a comfortable fit.
We’ve rounded up the best-selling, top-rated dog harnesses that have been tested and approved by Chewy dog owners like you, so you can rest assured that you’re getting the best one for your dog-walking duties.

Best Overall Dog Harness
-
Good fit
I have ordered this vest in multiple colors. I have an 18 lb Cockapoo. The fit is great . It snugs to his shape if you know what I mean.
-
Baxter’s new Harness
This harness fits my little half ShihTzu half Chihuahua great, so I just bought him a different color. Baby blue this time! Thanks, Chewy!
-
Nice fit
This is the third Voyager harness I have purchased. I've had 2 for my cat, small and medium as he grew. And I got one for a friend for her new puppy. The harness is so easy to put on, no chafing or rubbing, light weight, breathable. I like the security of the plastic buckle besides the Velcro. The fur babies don't fight the harness. It takes a few times for them to get used to the sound of the Velcro when removing the harness. This is well made. No issues with seams, buckles, or stitching.
Best No-Pull Dog Harness
-
My grand dog, an English cream retrieve, pulled like crazy until I got this for him. Now he’s easy to walk.
-
Excellent dog collar
Very easy to put on. Good for walking but does take time to learn how to avoid dog “walking through the leash.
-
Great harness
This harness is great. We had to buy a second one because our dog likes to rub the side of her body up on rough surfaces (brick walls, etc.) for good side scratches, and she eventually wore right through the harness lol But it endured a lot of her rubbing before we needed a new one!
Best Harness for a Puppy
-
No more pulling
By attaching the leash to the front ring on the easy walk harnes, my dog no longer pulls while going for a walk.
-
No pull Harness
My dog was hard to walk on a traditional leash. He was always pulling so hard he would choke himself. With the no pull harness it is so much easier to walk him.
-
Easy Walk Makes Walks Fun
We love the Easy Walk harness. It gives us good control, helps prevent pulling, and looks great. My wire fox terrier looks especially nice in the "ocean" color. The only issue I have is that the buckles on the harness are plastic. My girl chewed on the slides that adjust the chest straps which is why I purchase a new harness. Now she only wears her Easy Walk when supervised.
Best Small Dog Harness
-
Nice and soft
I like this vest because it's soft all the way around. The extra clips on the back secure the harness, even if the Velcro wears out. The only thing for me is that my dog is between sizes. I ended up using one that is a bit too large. I wish they had, more denominations!
-
Great for small breeds
This harness is well made and easy to put on. Just get your pups feet in the two holes and Velcro around the back. The Velcro is strong and has a lot of room for adjustment to get the right fit. I have a mini dachshund puppy, 6&1/2 lbs, the 11-13 inch fit well. It’s sturdy but breathable, I’m not worried about him overheating with this on. Absolutely recommend buying one.
-
Soft restraint
Our little Mario is a puller and most harnesses have a structured, rigid piece on the bottom (against chest) that may restrain - but could also injure. This Frisco harness is padded nicely. The Velcro wears out but no more often than I would expect. I will only buy this harness for my Cleo!!
Best Large Dog Harness

My grand dog, an English cream retrieve, pulled like crazy until I got this for him. Now he’s easy to walk.

Excellent dog collar
Very easy to put on. Good for walking but does take time to learn how to avoid dog “walking through the leash.

-
Good halter
I think this is a well made halter and will suit our pup until she needs to go up to a larger size?
-
Close to great
I bought for a 7 month old Corgi who it fits pretty good and appears comfortable for. It's sturdy, solid and adjustable enough to be very long lasting.
Best Dog Hiking Harness

Be Sure to Measure Your Pup!
This is a well designed harness and is working well for my 50lb Aussie Shepherd mix. That said, no one would look at her and say she's a large dog, but according to her measurements she needed a large harness. It fits her fine, but the neck opening is just about maxed out. She's got a little room to grow (she's not quite 2, so that's good), but again, she's not a large dog. So be sure and measure!

built to last!
been using this harness for a year and a half. it has withstood many a plunge in the lake, ocean, and spray of the hose. fits my dog well and hasn't caused joint issues.
Best Walk-in Dog Harness

Best dog harness ever!
I love this harness for my little dog, Lulu. She’s a papillon, 12 pounds, and this is a very comfortable harness for her to wear. It’s simple to put on, with padding that goes under her front legs. It doesn’t pull on her neck at all. I knew how great these were because I already had one. But we misplaced it and I ordered this one. Since then, we’ve found the original one but I’m really glad to have an extra.

Perfect for very young growing pups.
I used this with a dog 10 years ago and bought another one for our newest pup. It's perfect for potty breaks when they are so little and growing fast.
-
Sporn mesh no pull dog harness
This a great harness because it does not rub on my dog’s fur or skin. I highly recommend this to everyone.
Best Dog Car Harness
-
Super safety harness
I bought this for my 65 pound black lab and used it on a 4500 mile road trip. I love that it connects to the car’s seat belt system, which is really important in the case of a sudden stop (we had one on an expressway!) Doggo was comfortable sitting up or lying down, and she knew when we put it on that it was time to go! Very happy with this product.

Helpful
My representative was able to help me find and purchase a crash rated harness seat belt. We love Chewy everything especially glad you can get animal RX's
-
Love this harness
This is a great little harness. I love that it’s lightweight and easy to size for the perfect fit. My dog really likes how fast I can put it on and take it off. I use a seat belt attachment with it and it works great. Very pleased with this, and really all Kurgo products.
Best Mesh Harness for Dogs
-
Perfect. The chest piece is long enough that the front straps don't rub under her front legs. She is at the borderline for medium versus large but the medium is plenty big enough.
-
a great purchase
I’ve had this harness and leash since my dog was a puppy he’s seven now! It has been washed after every bath and camping trip for seven years! It has kept its nice color never frayed or any of the clasps broke! I’m looking or replace this now only because I’m bored of the color! My dogs a real puller when walking so it’s strong as well. Sadly they only have girly colors in stock so I’ll have to shop elsewhere but I’ll definitely stick with blueberry pet!#blueberrypetamazing

Great harness!
I have an Australian Cattle puppy who has a lot of energy when we go for walks. This harness is fantastic and makes it easy for me to control my pup. The colors are also really pretty
Best Reflective Dog Harness

Finally a harness that fits
I tried 7 harnesses before finding this. It was easy to adjust to the right fit, not too thick or big and well made. It’s perfect for my active dog.
-
Only No-Pull Harness to fit tiny dog
I have tried many brands. None of the others fits my 11 pound chi mix. Effective in preventing her from pulling (she is a born hunter and my neighborhood is full of rabbits). Wish they had more interesting colors.
-
Easy to use
This is my second PetSafe harness. It is light and easy to adjust. It is also super durable. I only purched this becuase I needed to size up!
Best Budget Dog Harness
-
Really helps with pulling!
My blue heeler mix gets so excited for walks and always pulls. With this harness there is absolutely no pulling. It seems really comfortable for her and is easy to put on/take off. Thinking about getting more for my other two dogs!
-
Really helps
My 21 pound doxie mix is a very big puller. This helps and doesn’t rub under his arms like the gentle walker does
-
Great harness
We love the new harness. Super comfortable and adjustable. Perfect for a pug who’s got more neck rolls. Sits at his shoulders instead of choking him out on walks if he pulls. We went with medium cuz he’s 26+lbs haha
You can’t go wrong with these Chewy customer favorites, but no matter which one you pick, you’ll want to ensure the harness fits properly. Measure your dog and refer to the product’s sizing guide to find the best fit for your pet. Learn how to measure your dog for a harness here.
