A dog harness is a dog walking staple. In fact, many pet parents opt for dog harnesses instead of dog collars. Why? Because they help distribute pressure away from their fur baby’s neck that’s caused by the leash, especially in dogs who pull. The best dog harnesses will have secure leash attachment points, be made with durable, easy to clean materials and have several adjustment points for a comfortable fit.
We’ve rounded up the best-selling, top-rated dog harnesses that have been tested and approved by Chewy dog owners like you, so you can rest assured that you’re getting the best one for your dog-walking duties.

Best Overall Dog Harness
-
Quality of the harness
I have a Scottish terrier and wasn’t sure about the sizing so when I measured him, it said he needed an extra large. It fits him perfectly, not too tight and just enough room and he loves to put his little “vest “ on When we go “ walkies “
-
seems comfortable and perfect for a new puppy
It’s easy to get on and get our puppy ready to take outside. We leave it on her during the day.
Best No-Pull Dog Harness
-
IT WORKED!
Solved our control problem when we suddenly had to avoid ANY pressure on her neck for medical reasons. Dog uses a halter vest when in car but it did not seem to give us any real control over this 78 lb. lap dog. Vet recommended we try this. Chewy got it to us FAST. Challenging to fit properly but we did and it WORKED!
-
Great Front Ring Harness
I love this harness because it fits my dog well and has the ring in the front. It really helps encourage her to not pull so much.
-
Your Photo has leash in wrong location, I think....
Having the leash under the chin does nothing to help the dog or lead him, but that part of the harness works perfectly is positioned correctly over the back so the leash is not getting into his face.
Best Harness for a Puppy

Great price and great quality
This harness is great for helping a dog who pulls. It's easy to adjust to fit your dog just right, and it is also easy to put on.
-
Easier to walk
My dog doesn't pull, strain, or choke on this harness, making it much more comfortable for both of us to take walks.
-
Amazing
I have to admit, I was a bit leery about the no pull harness, but thought I would try it. Amazing! King isn’t dragging me when he gets excited! Works like a charm!
Best Small Dog Harness
-
The best harness out there
I bought 4 of these in different colors. These harnesses are the only harness that I found that fit my dogs well.
-
Comfy, Easy to Put On
Easy step in harness - fast and easy to put on. We especially liked that feature since our dog resists "stepping in". The clip slides so the harness is comfortable to wear. Just wish the clip itself was easier to operate - it's a bit stiff and hard to undo so may not be a good choice if you have any issues with hand strength. Other than that we Love the fit and ease of use of this harness. The adjustable velcro strap allows room for when our dog is needing a sweater or shirt for warmth.
-
How easy they go on.
I rescue a lot of Puppy Mill dogs. These harnesses are the easiest to get on them being they've never had a collar or harness ever on before. It also helps to calm them .

Best Dog Harness with Handle
-
Finally a harness that fits
I've gone in so many places for my young womastice and they kept sending me the wrong kind of harnesses or small ones. The sizes that I ordered weren't the sizes. I got thank God for chewys.
-
Good no pull harness
This harness is very easy to put off and take off. Also it’s not bulky so you can even leave it on if you do multi walks during the day. And red looks fabulous on her with her red collar and jet black coat!
-
Easy to adjust
It’s great for hoisting up our dog’s front. She’s needs some hind end help, so we’ll buy another harness that lifts her whole body.
Best Dog Hiking Harness
-
Arrived quick
Make sure you measure..I assumed it would fit and it was a bit snug. Time for Max to diet!
-
Good quality
This was our last harness and it lasted 5 years - the side buckle broke off a small piece and although we could have still used it as it still snapped I decided to replace it. 5 years later we are going with the same product
-
Perfect harness!
It’s my second time purchasing this harness not because it broke but because my dog lost weight so his previous one was too big. I love the handle on the back and its width makes it very supportive and comfortable for my pup, never any bad rubbing.

No Pull - Easy Slip In Harness
I purchased this clip harness after discovering my pup didn't like the buckle-snap on harnesses. This harness was the answer and NO PULL!!
-
good fit for a difficult dog
Our miniature poodle has a broader chest and short legs, and his throat gets spasms if we leash his collar. We've tried four other types of harnesses (including cat ones) for him; the fit was always wrong. This one adjusts well and supports him perfectly, while avoiding pressure on his throat. I'm glad the Sporn comes in this small size for him; we have two others for our larger dogs and love the product.

There’s an improvement
With the harness, instead of being pulled down the path by a 200 lb wild animal on the trail of its favorite prey. I am walking with a mildly disobedient 20lb corgi.
Best Dog Car Harness
-
Quality Car Harness
Harness is heavy-duty. It fits my dog well and she is not able to get out of it when belted in the car.
-
Makes me feel safer when the dogs are in the car
I feel safer having the dogs secured with a crash-tested restraint. It's also a good, strong walking harness. The metal clasps make it pretty heavy, especially with the extra handle carabiner clipped on the back. The dogs don't seem to mind, but I prefer a lighter harness for walks for my smallest (cattle dog). My Dane has been walking in his for a few years now, and it's still in great shape.
-
2nd time buying!
This harness is great! I just bought my second one. It is the only one I trust for my large pit/lab mix who is very hard on things. He will snap other harnesses, but not this one. The other one lasted 5 years. Highly recommend!
Best Mesh Harness for Dogs
-
Stylish and secure
Highly reflective strips for evening walks. Easy on/off. Buckles feel sturdy and secure (our reason for replacing her previous harness.) Also, looks super cute on.
-
The way it fits.
This harness is very adjustable. I can get it just right. Also the reflectiveness is very good for those night walks.
-
Perfect. The chest piece is long enough that the front straps don't rub under her front legs. She is at the borderline for medium versus large but the medium is plenty big enough.
Best Reflective Dog Harness

Great harness!!! Car control scrap is not much though.
This harness is substantial, strong, and sturdy, but also light and somewhat slender-- SO comfortable for my dog! I really trust that it will hold up to his pulling but it feels much less burdensome on him than our previous harness. The color is so pretty and the stitching is reflective and really works. One thing: the "car control strap" is just a small loop with a clasp on the end. I don't really understand how it's supposed to work with a seatbelt; it's not all you might expect it to me.
-
Fits just right. Easy to use
It really works. My dog can't pull with it on. Also, thank you so much for the ball to welcome her to our family. She loves it!
-
Fit Lucky's deep chest
It fit the depth well but was still too long from neck to breast length. It was the only harness that came close to fitting him.
Best Budget Dog Harness
-
Sturdy construction
The construction of the harnesses, I bought one for each dog, is impressive and important. My dogs are on the larger side and sometimes get too excited during walks. I haven't seen any signs of problems at any of the stress points.
-
Comfy Harness
Hilda loves her harness and actually looks forward to wearing it. So glad we switched from a collar for her walks.
-
Great product!
I did not know that hooking my dog at the front of the harness would work so well! My little girl never has figured out how to get out of it so she gives up trying. Very pleased. And the price is great!
