As more pet owners jet off to new destinations with their dogs in tow, resorts have taken note and are upping the ante when it comes to pet-friendly amenities. From designer in-room beds to suites specifically tailored for pets, discover ten resorts across the country that provide pets and their owners with stellar dog-friendly amenities.
Mandarin Oriental in Atlanta, Georgia
The luxurious Mandarin Oriental hotel in Atlanta’s high-end Buckhead neighborhood caters to the pet set with a list of impressive amenities. Pets are welcomed with organic bone-shaped cookies prepared by the hotel’s pastry team and in the guestrooms dogs will find a bed, water bowl, doggie dental kit and a handful of play toys waiting for them.
The in-room “MOpup” dining program offers a selection of pet-friendly dishes, such as grilled steelhead salmon with roasted asparagus and glazed carrots, and dry aged beef tenderloin with blue cheese mashed potatoes and peanut butter biscuits.
The hotel’s outdoor garden has a pet-friendly seating area where dogs and their owners can enjoy drinks together. Dogs can sip on an alcohol-free, peach-flavored “MOcktail” or a coconut water-infused “Melon Puptail.”
Pet parents are provided with a map to discover the best pet-friendly places in Atlanta, including popular walking trails in nearby Chastain Park, and the hotel’s concierge team can provide recommendations on Atlanta’s top dog-sitters, grooming services, 24-hour veterinary services, pet hot spots and pet retailers.
Guests looking for a souvenir for their pets can purchase a “MOpup” hoodie featuring the slogan “Keep Calm and Carry Treats” on the back. Pet turndown service is also available upon request.
Emerson Resort and Spa in Mount Tremper, New York
Located in the New York’s Catskill Mountains, Emerson Resort and Spa is surrounded by lush woods, mountains and water. Pet owners can walk their pets all over the picturesque property and enjoy plenty of perks.
The highlight of the resort is the Catamount Dog Park. The park features a dog run, shower, fresh running water and a special section for smaller dogs, too. Designated pet-friendly rooms and cabins have either a rustic or contemporary feel. Guests can book an “Emerson Pupgrade” that includes bottled water and gourmet dog treats, food bowls, a dog bed, complimentary dog walking services, and a donation to a local animal shelter.
The Emerson’s kitchen also whips up a “Pup Fare” menu featuring homemade treats including baked in-house dog bones, unseasoned chicken breasts and steak filets.
W Fort Lauderdale in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
The W hotel chain is notable for being pet friendly, but the W Fort Lauderdale really stands out from the pack. Guests and their furry friends are welcome in standard rooms but can expect amenities galore if they book the chic hotel’s Dog-Gone-It package, which comes with a stay in the one-bedroom “Pet Suite” featuring a balcony with ocean views and a “tinkle turf pad.”
Here, guests can order off the bone-shaped specialty pet menu featuring meals ranging from organic salmon filet with steamed asparagus to a hamburger with diced pineapples. Dogs also get a W Fort Lauderdale bandana, a W signature Bark Box full of treats and toys, an in-room dog bed, food, water bowls, natural peanut butter and oatmeal snacks and waste bags.
The hotel lies right on Fort Lauderdale Beach and pets are allowed in specific locations on the beach during designated times. Pets and their owners also can dine porch side at the on-site restaurant Steak 954.
“We’ve always been keen on delivering personalized experiences and that extends to welcoming even those with wet noses and wagging tails,” says the hotel’s general manager Anna MacDiarmid.
Barnsley Gardens Resort in Adairsville, Georgia
The Barnsley Gardens Resort gives pets and their owners a chance to experience the Antebellum South at a luxury resort. About one-hour north of Atlanta, the resort sits on 300 acres complete with cottages and lush, landscaped grounds. Dogs who accompany their owners to the resort will be pampered by the resort’s “furry” godmother.
“She welcomes them and gets them settled in with treats and things,” says Lauren Greer, social media manager for BringFido.com. This includes bowls, beds and bottled water for dog guests.
Pets and their owners can also enjoy outdoor sitting areas with fire pits, lawn games and outdoor dining venues. Guests who book the Pampered Pets for PAWS rate get the resort’s $75 pet fee waived and donated to PAWS Atlanta, a local no-kill shelter. Greer adds that the resort’s ten miles of nearby hiking trails make it an ideal place for pet parents to stay.
Brazilian Court Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida
The boutique and luxurious Brazilian Court Hotel is just a few streets away from the beach and nearby Palm Beach’s main shopping street, Worth Avenue. Its “Brazilian Court Pet Package” features a complimentary amenity, a nightly turndown service and town car service to Palm Beach’s Pucci and Catana Luxury Pet Boutique.
The Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach, Oregon
Upon arrival at the Surfsand Resort, furry friends will receive a welcome basket with a pet bed, towel, placemat and bowls as part of the resort’s Fred’s Friends Pets Program (Fred is the hotel’s mascot). Half the rooms at the resort are pet friendly due and include enclosed balconies so you can sit outside with your pet.
Dogs are also welcome on Cannon Beach, mere steps from the resort. According to Greer, pet parents will appreciate the resort’s views of Cannon Beach’s iconic Haystack Rock and Tillamook Head Lighthouse. The resort also hosts an informal annual dog show with proceeds benefiting a local animal shelter.
Calistoga Ranch in Napa, California
The luxurious and secluded Calistoga Ranch is located in a private canyon on 157 acres and is surrounded by tall trees, rolling hills and its very own lake. The 50-room inn features private lodges where pets and their owners can enjoy time on enclosed balconies and walks on the well-landscaped grounds.
All furry guests will receive a welcome amenity of a special treat, dog bed and food and water bowls while their owners can enjoy a complimentary glass of Calistoga Ranch wine upon arrival. A staff member from the hotel can take your dog on a scent-and-search Bacon Scavenger Hunt, a guided walk through in the canyon.
The resort’s Happy Tails newspaper provides guests with information on pet-friendly restaurants and shops in the local area and the canine culinary room service menu features options like braised short rib served over brown rice, unseasoned organic chicken chopped and tossed with fresh pasta and a burger cooked raw or rare served over steamed white short grain rice.
The Little Nell in Aspen, Colorado
Perhaps Aspen’s most iconic hotel, the five-star Little Nell welcomes dogs in its living room, lobby and guest rooms. All overnight pet guests receive a leash, silver bowls and a bed. The pastry kitchen prepares in-house dog bones and the hotel features a designated dog menu.
Valets can take Fido for a walk upon request and dogs can also ride the gondola on Aspen Mountain during the warm-weather months then hike the mountain with their human companions. The hotel is downtown and is near many dog-friendly places, like Wagner Park.
“Our domesticated canine friends are really an extension of guest families,” says Carol Hooper, head concierge of The Little Nell. “They deserve to enjoy a family vacation and bring home treasured memories.”
Spruce Point Inn Resort and Spa in Boothbay Harbor, Maine
The Spruce Point Inn Resort and Spa provides guests with sweeping views of Boothbay Harbor, private cabins and is surrounded by classic Maine sights like lighthouses, boats and lush forests.
Joe Paolillo, the innkeeper at Spruce Point Inn, is a dog owner himself, and his love for his pooch is evident throughout the property (the Inn’s casual restaurant, Bogies, is even named for his former furry companion). The resort’s seasonal “Paws & Pillows” package includes a pet bed, bowls and treats and a morning snack pack. Dog owners also can walk their dogs on Boothbay’s historic trails. According to Greer, this resort is recommended for pet owners because it doesn’t charge a pet fee.
Iron Springs Resort in Copalis Beach, Washington
Iron Springs Resort provides guests with secluded lodging on beach-front cliffs along the Pacific Northwest Coast and is recommended for its long list of amenities and its pet policy (which allows for three dogs of any size per cabin). The resort’s 25 dog-friendly private cabins offer ocean views and beach access. The resort is also located on 100 acres of coastal woodland where dogs and their owners can enjoy long walks.
Each cabin features water and food bowls, absorbent paw-printed towels and an outdoor water spigot to wash sandy paws after playing on the beach.
At check-in, furry friends receive an Iron Springs Resort tennis ball and treat. The on-site general store sells specialty Iron Springs leashes and collars and photos of your canine visitors are displayed in the cabins and at the general store.
