Holiday Dog Treat Recipe: Snowballs

Christmas is a time for eating and as a much-loved member of the family, there is no reason your dog should miss out on a fun indulgence.

Between Christmas gatherings, events, work and everything else, I rarely have much extra time to bake, so I wanted to create a healthy, easy, no-bake dog treat. This is what I came up with. According to my dog they are nothing short of genius!

Equipment needed:

Food processor, small bowl, measuring cup, dog taste-tester

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond meal
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup roughly chopped almonds
  • Extra shredded coconut for rolling

Directions:

Place almond meal, shredded coconut, vanilla extract and water in your food processor and mix until well combined. You don’t want the dough to be too dry so you might need to add a little extra water as you go.

Place the dough in a bowl and add the chopped almonds. Now scoop out bite-sized pieces and roll between your hands into little balls.

For a snowball look, roll each ball in shredded coconut.

Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days. These also freeze well for up to 1 month.

This recipe makes 22 dog treats and contains 1115 total calories.

*Note: Consult with your veterinarian before feeding your dog any new foods.
