When planning for pet travel, it’s important to pack everything you need to keep your pup fed, comfortable and safe along the way. Aside from the essentials, one often-overlooked prep point is making sure you can find the right resources when you’re traveling with dogs. When I’m traveling with my pack of pooches, I always make sure to have the best dog apps for pet travel on my phone and at my fingertips. Here’s why you should too:
Slobbr is a pet travel app that shows you dog-friendly restaurants, hotels and other places around the US and is one of the best dog apps for pet owners taking a trip with their four-legged friends. When we travel, I like to use Slobbr to look around for dog-friendly accommodations and dining options in our desired vacation location before I head to the airport or train station. The Slobbr map lays out the locations in a clean, concise way by using icons that represent pet-friendly hotels, parks and restaurants. It allows you to filter exactly what you are looking for and where you are looking to find it. For example, if I am in Boston looking to do some research for dog-friendly vacations in California, I can filter for “accommodations” in zip code 90263 or go directly on the map and zoom in on the desired location. If you’re looking to find dog-friendly accommodations close to a specific park, restaurant, or other pinpoints, there’s also an option for that, too.
Slobbr isn’t only a resource I use when I’m planning our getaways, but it also has a lot of practical day-to-day benefits when it comes to traveling with dogs. The best part about Slobbr is that when I am out and about, I can give back to rescues wherever we are. By merely “checking in” to a location on the map, Slobbr and their partner, Wellness Pet, will make a donation of food or products to a preselected rescue that changes bi-monthly, so they can spread the wealth. It’s a win-win!
Rover.com: Founded roughly 7 years ago, Rover.com has become the go-to app when looking for pup care while on the road. Available throughout the US, with just the click of a button, you can be connected to an experienced dog sitter or walker in moments. If you’re anything like me, I want to be able to check out who I’m leaving my beloved pack with. The Rover app makes it easy to see the service provider’s reviews, and you can communicate with them prior to the service, which puts a nervous dog mom like me at ease.
PetCube: Traveling with dogs means they’ll come across new smells, new noises, and of course, new things to destroy. I won’t lie—traveling with dogs can be stressful when you need to leave them at your hotel or rental home. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could go out and explore and be able to periodically check in on them without actually running back and forth? Well, you can! The PetCube app is a great dog app that works with the PetCube camera, an interactive dog camera that lets you see, talk and give dog treats to your pup when you’re away from home or the hotel. With the click of a button, you can be “in” the room with your pets, with two-way audio that allows you to let him know you’ll be home soon or not so soon. You can even catch him being naughty, and talk to him through the dog camera’s speaker. Trust me, I’ve done it many times before. This dog camera app is a great way to get peace of mind and be able to enjoy your time out of the room when traveling with dogs.
There you have it—three extremely helpful dog apps that will make pet travel easier for both you and your pup. Now you really have no reason to leave your furry friend at home on your next vacay.
