I love to cook. Grocery shopping, not so much. I value my time on the weekend. That’s when I get to sleep in with my husband and dog, go on fun adventures and make special memories with those I love. Thanks to the meal delivery service HelloFresh, I don’t have to take time away from my family to go to the store.
Another thing I love to do is spoil my 3-year-old mixed breed dog, Dexter, any chance I get. Like many dogs, he begs for food at the dinner table. But, since some of the ingredients, like garlic, are poisonous to dogs, I opt out of sharing the food off of my own plate.
Lucky for Dexter, his whines and puppy dog eyes during every meal broke my heart. So, I became a dog mom on a mission, determined to find a way to safely share my food with him. I started experimenting by taking bits and pieces of any of the dog-friendly ingredients I was cooking with to then create special treats for Dex.
When whipping up the honey-glazed pork tenderloin meal from my recent HelloFresh delivery, I created a doggy “meatball” treat with green bean “noodles” for Dex. It took no extra time in the kitchen as I cooked it while cooking my own meal. And I didn’t need to buy any extra ingredients because I just used a few items from the HelloFresh meal and a few from my pantry. Best of all, we got to sit down together as a family for a delicious bite to eat—with no begging!
It’s safe to say this DIY dog treat is one of his favorite creations I’ve made. And it might just be your dog’s favorite, too!

NOTE: This treat was crafted so that it can be easily made the same exact time you’re making your HelloFresh meal. For baking the vegetables, use a separate baking pan for your dog so there is no salt or pepper added to his. Also, when pan-frying the pork, do your dog’s first and then yours. Head over to the HelloFresh blog for more info.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Follow HelloFresh’s instructions for peeling and dicing the sweet potato into ½-inch cubes.
Set aside ¼ cup of the sweet potatoes. This will be the portion used for the dog treat.
Put the ¼ cup of diced sweet potatoes on a pan with parchment paper. Add ¼ teaspoon of olive oil.
Toss the sweet potatoes in the oil and roast for 10 minutes.
While the sweet potatoes are roasting, pat the pork loin dry with a paper towel (dispose of towel afterward).
Slice off 1 ounce. This will be the portion used for the dog treat.
Heat ½ teaspoon of olive oil in medium frying pan over medium-high heat. Add pork and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until fully cooked and an internal temperature of 165 degrees F or 74 degrees C has been achieved. Set aside.
Take 3 of the green beans that come in the HelloFresh kit and add them to the baking pan with the sweet potatoes. Toss green beans with ¼ teaspoon oil. Flip sweet potatoes over. Return baking pan to oven and roast until both veggies are tender, 10-15 more minutes.
While the vegetables are roasting, finely chop the cooked pork and set aside.
Put the dog biscuit into a plastic bag and crush with the rolling pin. Put the crushed biscuit on a plate.
Take the vegetables out of the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Once at room temperature, place the sweet potatoes into a mixing bowl and mash with a fork until smooth.
Add the pork to the mashed sweet potatoes. Using your hands, mix the pork and sweet potatoes to create a meatball.
Carefully dip the meatball into the melted coconut oil and then coat with the crushed biscuit. Set aside.
Cut green beans in half and take the seeds out of the middle. After de-seeding, slice them again to create four quarters for each green bean.
For the broth, mix the water, honey and turmeric together in your dog’s bowl.
Add the green bean “noodles” next and then top it off with the meatball.
Plate your HelloFresh Honey-Glazed Pork Tenderloin meal for yourself, and then enjoy a special treat with your pup.
