If you’re the type of person who makes a beeline for the cats at a party (or better yet, the type of person who skips parties all together in order to stay home with their cat), you’re not alone. After all, cats are better than people. It’s science. Here’s ten surefire signs you’d rather hang out with your cat than most human beings.

Picture Purr-fect
All of the photos on your Facebook page, Instagram, desktop, cell phone, and iPad are all of your cat. A digital frame near your keyboard at work holds even more adorable shots of Fluffy napping, playing, napping, eating, napping, stretching, napping, and so on. Never mind that your cubicle is a shrine to your BFF, too. A plastic-encased picture of your favorite tabby is on your key ring, and at home, a professionally photographed shot is framed and prominently displayed. (Your kids’ photos, on the other hand, occupy smaller, dustier spots.)

Dress to Excess?
You attend a pet fashion show, making a list of the must-have outfits and accessories you’re certain your cat would enjoy. You ask the designers backstage if they could make the kitty raincoat in coral, and if the cabled hoodie has to be so long. You order an original, complete with sequins, that costs more than your own winter coat.

Creature Comforts
You’re having your living room redecorated, and work with the interior designer to make certain the carpeting will be plush enough for your cat’s comfort. You also want to be sure it won’t clash with your cat’s coloring, that the sofa will be cat-claw-friendly, and the floor-to-ceiling cat trees and towers are shade-pleasing enough for the cat… if not your spouse.

No Vacation From Worry
As you’re planning a vacation, you look for pet-friendly B&Bs, then grill the owners about accommodations for your feline friend. If a resident cat will be on the premises, you insist on personality details of that cat, then fret over whether they’ll get along.

Ringing Reminders
The ringtone on your phone is not a song (unless it’s “Memory” from Cats) but the plaintive meow of your own dear feline, speaking up in indignation at dinner being late or begging for catnip. The endearing sound always brings you a smile, because it reminds you of your cat’s special place in your life.

Present Presence
You shop year-round to find the perfect birthday gift for your cat. You may find one that’s delightful, perhaps a fun new toy, only to spot a better one…along with a cushy new bed a few weeks later. You buy both, and add them to the already-bulging shopping bag filled with gifts for Fluffy’s third birthday, just seven months from now. I mean, no point being a last-minute shopper!

Happy B-Day! Love, Fluffy
When your own birthday rolls around, the card you most cherish is the one from your cat…which you’ve chosen and mailed to yourself, including Fluffy’s paw-o-graph signature. You know that your cat would send cards herself, only if she could figure out how to close the envelopes, so you keep a stash of cute kitty cards around, and randomly send them to yourself for an extra dose of feline joy.

Brown-Bag Bragging
If you go to lunch with friends from work, you allow them to talk – briefly – about their kids’ school accomplishments before bragging that your cat learned a new trick. You then, naturally, offer to show them the 20-minute YouTube video you’ve uploaded of her in action.

Work-Life Balance
You lobby your boss and office mates to sanction “Take Your Cat To Work Day.” Dogs come to the office, why not cats? You promise to handle the litter box situation, provide catnip toys, and assign an intern to record all the feline cuteness on video. You plan a staff meeting where your cat will be the star. (But your cat would rather telecommute, preferably from under the bed.)

They Feed Your Soul
The highlight of your day is returning home from a long, frustrating day at work to see your cat sitting in the front window, gazing out , ready to welcome you with all the news about what she’s been doing without you. Dinner can wait (at least your dinner) while you share a sweet moment or two with the one critter who thinks you’re perfect, too.
